The Big PINK Give Raises $300,000
Susan G. Komen Austin makes fundraising history, raises more than $300,000 for Austin breast cancer community at Big PINK Give
AUSTIN, Texas—April 12, 2018—Susan G. Komen Austin hosted its annual Big PINK Give event to celebrate the organization’s impact on Central Texas’ breast cancer community. The event, which was held on Friday, April 5, was made possible by Dell, Inc. and Texas Oncology, among other corporate partners, and raised more than $300,000 in independent donations to support breast cancer survivors and family members in Komen Austin’s five-county community.
The Big PINK Give event breaks the traditional gala mold and brings together survivors, advocates, and donors for a night solely focused on giving to others. This year’s event welcomed 200 of the most influential players in Central Texas’ breast cancer support movement to honor their commitment to the cause and recognize the community’s survivors and fighters. Guests were invited to make a lasting impact by participating in a fully give-based auction. Diamonds Direct in the Domain gifted Komen Austin two, custom-made diamond and pink sapphire necklaces (totaling $11,000 in value) – one for the winning bidder and one for the top survivor fundraiser at Race for the Cure. The item brought $100,000, the largest single gift in the history of the seven-year event.
“Because of our generous corporate sponsors, we were able to begin the Big PINK Give event with all costs covered, which means everything raised at the event went towards the cause,” said Suzanne Stone, Komen Austin Executive Director. “We are truly blown away by the plentiful acts of kindness our guests bestowed on our community. It’s rare to see such selfless giving, and our guests’ contributions will have an enormous impact on our mission and support for breast cancer survivors.”
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Susan G. Komen Austin. Since its establishment in 1998, Komen Austin has raised more than $11.7 million and funded 230,000 services for the Austin breast cancer community. The impact of this year’s Big PINK Give will provide lifesaving resources for the more than 2 million people in our five-county service area number of survivors Komen Austin supports, along with the necessary research dollars to continue pushing forward on Komen’s mission of ending breast cancer forever.
Komen Austin would like to extend a special thanks to its corporate sponsors for the Big PINK Give: Dell, Inc.; Texas Oncology; Jaguar Land Rover Austin; St. David’s Healthcare; St. David’s Foundation; and Diamonds Direct, among many other generous Austin-based businesses.
