2018 Spring Interns
My name is Lilly Venable and I am from Wimberley, Texas. I am currently a Senior at Texas State University, where I am majoring in Public Relations. As the Special Communications Intern, I will be working on the “More Than Pink” podcast series, posting on our extensive social media outlets, and creating graphics! During my internship, I hope to learn more about what it takes to manage social media accounts for an organization as large as Komen. I find non-profit organizations inspiring, which only increases my excitement about being here. In my free time, I love to go swimming, pet my dog and cats, and play board games with my best friends.
My name is Sidney Dorsey. While I am originally from Spring, Texas, I currently live in San Marcos where I attend school at Texas State University. I am a Public Relations major and I am looking forward to graduating this August. As the Graphics and Communication intern, I will be managing the Komen Austin social media outlets and creating a lot of the graphics that you see. During my time at Komen Austin, I am looking forward to getting more experience in the field of social media management while honing my skills as a graphic designer. Some of my hobbies include checking out the restaurants around San Marcos and playing video games.
My name is Megan Cole and I am from Alexandria, Virginia. I currently attend UTHealth School of Public Health where I am pursuing my M.P.H. and plan to graduate in May of 2019. During my experience as an Education and Outreach intern for Susan G. Komen Austin, I hope to gain an understanding of how research regarding health disparities in the community can be applied to community organizations and clinics. I also hope to get a better understanding of how non-profits operate and are managed. My hobbies include sampling the many food trucks that Austin has to offer, hiking, and trying new coffee shops.
My name is Shelby DeWitt and I am an Austin native. I am a current senior at Texas State University where I am finishing my bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Leadership. In my spare time, I really enjoy baking and entertaining at home.
Hello! My name is Ileanna Guerra, and I am serving as the Spring 2018 Community Engagement Intern. I am a fourth-year health promotion and behavioral sciences major at UT Austin, and I will be graduating at the end of this semester. I was born and raised in San Antonio, and I am planning on returning home after graduation to pursue a graduate degree in public health. As the Community Engagement Intern, I hope to gain a better understanding of non-profit management. I have always admired the work that Susan G. Komen has done to eradicate breast cancer, and I hope to leave this internship knowing that I was able to contribute to that cause. In my free time, I enjoy spending time outside with my puppy, Nala. I also love trying new food, shopping, and exploring Austin.
I moved from Jakarta, Indonesia to pursue my master’s in Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at UT Austin. As an Education and Outreach Intern, I want to learn more about the grant process while also getting to know the communities that Komen Austin serves. After I graduate in May 2018, I plan to continue working in managing projects in nonprofits that focus on serving local communities specifically in women’s health and reproductive rights.
