2017 Interns

Mikayla Mutscher

My name is Mikayla Mutscher and I’m from Round Rock, Texas. As the Operations Intern for Susan G. Komen Austin, I hope to gain professional experience to support my future career and an understanding of non-profit management. I’m a third year student at the University of Texas at Austin and am majoring in Corporate Communication Studies with a certificate in Business Foundations. At the University of Texas, I am involved in a spirit organization, Texas Lassos, and I’m a mentor for first year Moody College of Communication students. Some of my hobbies include cooking, traveling, and exploring Austin.

Jaclyn Maneri

My name is Jaclyn Maneri and I am from Sugar Land, Texas. This fall I will be a junior at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Public Relations and double minoring in American Sign Language and business. Aside from school, I love to read cheesy romance novels, catch up on my latest netflix show, go to the pool, and find dogs to pet. This summer and fall I will be the Communications Intern, focusing on public relations and social media. I am excited to learn about the nonprofit world while gaining knowledge about managing a business’ social media accounts.

Mallory VanderSchans

My name is Mallory VanderSchans and I am originally from Elk Grove, California. I am an active duty Marine with 11 years of service and three combat deployments. In 2015 I was accepted to the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program, which brought me to Austin, TX. I attend the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising with a focus on Texas Sports and Entertainment and participate in the UT NORTC. Upon graduation in May 2019, I will commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps with hopes of being a Public Affairs Officer. As the Graphics Intern this summer at Susan G. Komen Austin, I hope to further my understanding of working in the non-profit sector and gain knowledge of community health practices. In my free time I enjoy running, paddle boarding, photography and watching movies at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Ellen Teuscher

My name is Ellen Teuscher and I’m serving as Events and Fundraising Intern this summer and fall. I’m especially excited to be working at Komen Austin to learn more about fundraising in relation to the non-profit world and to get the opportunity to give back to the city I’m now lucky to call home. Currently I’m a rising second year at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Government in the Liberal Arts Honors program and planning to add a minor in Economics. Before moving to Austin for school I spent my whole life in The Woodlands, TX. I’m actively involved in my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and in UT Student Government, currently serving as Liberal Arts Representative. In my free time I love to explore the Austin food scene, read books in my hammock, and take full advantage of all the outdoors adventures Austin has!

Minh Doan

My name is Minh Doan, and I attend The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health in Austin, TX. I am working on my Master of Public Health (MPH) with an emphasis in Epidemiology. I grew up in Hastings, Nebraska, but my immediate family is now in Katy, TX. I am the Education and Outreach Intern for Komen Austin. From my internship, I hope to gain experience in the workings of nonprofit organizations and better understand the application component of disease interventions and prevention. My hobbies include being outdoor, eating, hanging out with family and friends, and most recently, playing with my new puppy.

Lauren Schweers

My name is Lauren Schweers from San Marcos, Texas, and I am a senior at The University of Texas at Austin studying Marketing and Sociology.  Joining Susan G. Komen Austin as Race and Community Engagement Intern this year, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this team.  Cancer has personally affected my life, and through my efforts with this internship, I hope to be able to support and give back to those currently battling cancer, as well as to survivors and their families.  I’m looking forward to learning about and working in the non-profit sector, specifically on Race for the Cure, and I hope to positively impact a successful event.
